HOT ENOUGH TO KILL (Review)

The mayor's dead, you're mother's in jail, and you'd rather be anywhere but Kickapoo, Texas. Welcome to Jolene Jackson's world. And just as sure as mesquites have thorns, she knows things are going to get worse. A lot worse. Jolene Jackson is never enthusiastic about returning to her hometown of Kickapoo, Texas, where the temperature in July hangs at a blistering 112. But when she gets a call that her 72-year-old mother's boyfriend, who happens to be the mayor, has just been shot dead, and her mother is in a cell at the county jail, she reluctantly heads south. Before she can get a handle on that catastrophe, her high school sweetheart, who is now the county sheriff, is shot while sitting in her mother's kitchen, leaving Jolene to figure out who's on the loose in the mesquites with a stolen shotgun and Hot Enough to Kill.

DEAD MAN FALLS

Jolene's back in Kickapoo for her mother's annual birthday bash at the DQ, which is trouble enough in its own right, but when her checkered high school past comes back to haunt her, the problems turn decidedly deadly. And it doesn't help matters that her old rival, Rhonda The-Lying-Slut Davenport, is telling anybody who will listen that she hopes Jolene's the next one to show up dead.
